Parent Participation
Parent involvement isn't a luxury --it's an irreplaceable component of student achievement. Successful parent involvement can be defined as the active, ongoing participation of a parent or primary caregiver in the education of his/her child. Parents can demonstrate involvement at home: by reading with their children, helping with homework, and discussing school events. Parents can demonstrate involvement at school by attending functions or volunteering in classrooms. Decades of research on the effect of meaningful parent involvement in schools have found that:
* when parents are involved, students achieve more, regardless of socioeconomic status, ethnic background, or the parents' education level.
* when parents are involved, students exhibit more positive attitudes and behavior.
* children from diverse cultural backgrounds tend to do better when parents and professionals collaborate to bridge the gap between the culture at home and their school.
During our unit on inventions, we will be having bake sales every Friday, during lunch, to help raise money to lower the cost of our field trip.
1. We need parents to donate individually wrapped goodies and send them with your child on Friday mornings.
2. We also need at least one parent to supervise each bake sale (approximately 90 minutes).
3. We will need a minimum of six chaperones for our trip to COSI.
